God is Faithful...one answer to prayer at a time!

Yes....God does care...and I could only begin to count the ways He's showed me that lately! But there's several unique answers to prayer that I just have to share!

The first answer to prayer is rather strange. This past week we had another earthquake here in Loma Linda California. I say "another" because here, earthquakes are happening ALL the time! It's just that most people don't feel them because they are only 1 or 2 on the Richter scale. But this one was a whopping 4.0!!! And it was sooo strong it was felt for miles away. Sunny thought a truck had hit our house, and Valerie thought her roommate had dropped something huge! Come to find out, when one friend engineer decided to do some more research and matched up the latitude and longitude coordinates to see exactly WHERE in Loma Linda this great quake had originated from....the earthquake's epicenter was basically right at our very doorstep.......right under our house.....almost 10 miles down!!! Hmmmmm.....now how's that for interesting??!!! Makes me wonder if God's trying to shake us out of sleep to greater zeal....or maybe He's saying "Get out of here before the BIG ONE comes!!" Whatever the case, I just praise the Lord for his protection....even when we don't know what to ask for ahead of time!! :-)

The next answer to prayer has to do with a silver mini-van.....our "space ship" as I liked to call it that we were driving this past week. Several of my girlfriends and I just got back from an incredible trip to Colorado for another girl's retreat with Eric and Leslie Ludy. (I will tell you more about that soon!) However, the last evening before we were to return to California, someone rammed their vehicle into our rental van...and then took off without leaving us any info. So we were left with a nasty ugly dent in our side panel! (Ouch!! And we hadn't purchased the extra rental insurance coverage!) I wasn't sure if our own insurance would cover and was just imagining what this doozer could cost. But we all prayed that God would help things to work out, and Praise the Lord, they did! My girlfriend who had rented the van, found out that her Credit Card she had used to pay for the rental provided coverage for damage to rentals. Yeah!!!! So no extra skin off our nose. What a blessing! We just praise the Lord for this direct answer to prayer! (Hmmm....maybe Credit Card's are worthwhile once in awhile after all...)

The third HUGE answer to Prayer has to do with furniture! You see, my sister is getting married this summer, and so that means that she moves out all her furniture......and basically I am left with nothing! ;-) Well, that's slightly over-exaggerated, but pretty much all I have out here in CA, I brought out in my car....so it's not much. Anyway, I'm still seeking to get completely out of debt, so am not up to re-stocking the house with furniture....and so I decided that I would just have to live with it empty. But we have all Sunny and I's family coming out for the wedding, and I host lots of events in our home, so a couple months ago, I started praying about the furniture situation...and praying that God would somehow provide if He saw best. Well, just the week that Sunny was moving her stuff out....another friend was also moving and didn't have space to use all his furniture at this time.....so he offered to allow us girls to use his couches, dining table (that seats up to 8 people), china cabinet, coffee table, end tables and more....until he needs them in the future! It was more furniture than Sunny moved out, but it is perfect and exactly what we needed!!! Even in the colors that I was wishing for!!! (How's that for a grand time miracle....and I didn't even have to pay a cent!) What a huge answer to prayer!!!! God is sooooo faithful....just like he provided me the miracle porch swing this past April for $30 bucks (Did I tell everyone this story??) he also came through in answering my prayer for the rest of the furniture we needed! I am just in awe!!

The last answer to prayer that I will share in this post has to do with my longtime friend and buddy, "Titus Trofast Elliot." Titus (pictured above) is a little stuffed puppy that my good friend Gabriela gave me in Norway a few years ago. His name is significant as it stands for a very important growing time in my life. (First name comes from: Titus 3:5. Second: "Trofast" stands for "Faithful" in Norwegian and I chose the name to remind me that "God is faithful." Third: Elliot was from one of my favorite missionary martyrs - Jim Elliot who quotes, "He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot loose." So there you have it!)

As you can see by the meaning behind the name, Titus is a pretty significant puppy, and besides making a great neck pillow, has been my confident and friend for a few years now. He's been with me to Africa, Egypt, camping, all across the US, and who knows where else. Naturally, I took him to Colorado with me as well, as I figured he'd enjoy another adventure. Well, sadly, I was sooo caught up with the activities of the weekend, that I went off and left Titus in our motel room in Windsor. But I didn't realize it at first. On our way home, I looked for him once or twice, but figured he got buried in the luggage. But then when I got home, I never found him. I panicked as I worried about "where" he might have gotten dropped. Then it hit me last night, "What if I left him in the motel? Would they even save him, or would they toss him out with the trash? Oh no!!! What have I done?" I almost cried thinking about it! I worked today, so couldn't call the motel til this evening....but praying, I made the fateful phone call. Was Titus still there?? YES!!! YES!!! He was!! They'd saved him... Praise the Lord! I was sooooo excited!!! I almost cried again! ;-) (Imagine if he'd been a real friend....)

Yes, God is sooo faithful....and I have to ponder the question, "When I see how God takes care of these little details in my life....why is it soooo hard to trust Him with the big details???"

Hmmmm.... we should all spend a few minutes thinking about that, huh??

"Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith?" Matt 6:25-30

God is sooooooo good!!! I just praise Him....

"I hear wedding bells in the air..."

This last week, we had the special priviledge of hosting a "Bridal Shower" for my dear sister Sunny! The fellowship was wonderful, the food was scrumptious...and as you can see, we had loads of fun! (You would never imagine what beautiful things could be made out of "toilet paper!") Oh yes...and don't say the words "Bride, Wedding or Tim" or you might loose your safety pin! (Another fun game that kept us trying to be creative....I wasn't very good at it though and lost all my pins right in the beginning!)

Thanks Sunny for getting married, so we could celebrate! (Oh yes, and thanks Tim, for asking Sunny to marry you and getting this wonderful ball rolling!!! We love you both and are soo happy for you!)

Enjoy the pictures everyone!!! ;-)

Sisters by chance, but Friends by choice...

Actually...nothing is by chance in God's plan! I know that God brought Sunny and I together as sisters for a very special reason, and I'm sooo thankful for all that we share.

Pinning on the paper rose!

Prayer circle...

The dessert table...yum yum!!!

Fellowship

"You've got 15 minutes to make a wedding dress!"

And all you can use is Toilet Paper!!!!

For those looking for an inexpensive wedding dress...here's the perfect solution! Just have it designed out of "toilet paper." I know some pretty good designers!!!! ;-)

Sunny with the brides

Sunny got to be the judge of the most creatively designed dress. Stephanie (in the middle) was the winner!! The designers were: Joelle, Janine and Monica. Way to go girls!!!

Girlfriends snuggle...

Laughter is good for the soul...and we had plenty of it!

Final group shot with the brides!

Aren't we a lovely looking group?? But of course, only ONE has the radiance of a new soon-to-be Bride! And that of course, is Sunny!! ;-)

No more cooking...

My heart is just singing thanksgiving to God! And I praise the Lord for answered prayer!!

"Why should the sons and daughters of God be reluctant to pray, when prayer is the key in the hand of faith to unlock heaven's storehouse, where are treasured the boundless resources of Omnipotence...Perseverance in prayer has been made a condition of receiving. We must pray always if we would grow in faith and experience. We are to be "instant in prayer," to "continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving." Romans 12:12*

Sometimes I don't know what God is doing in my life...I guess that is more than sometimes. Yet, this weekend, I have come to see in a new way that He truly does have a plan...more beautiful than any I would imagine.

As one of my dear girlfriends likes to quote....

"God's not gonna provide manna for you if you're already cooking your own food!"

Hmmmmmm......good point! Now I understand why HE has been trying to get me to "give up cooking!" God has such a sense of humor....but I praise Him for His patience and longsuffering...and most of all, for His tender mercies!

"For the LORD shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody." Isa 51:3

"And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD." Ps 40:3

Lessons for the heart...from a caterpillar!

"Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Jn 3:3

"Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." I Pet 1:23

When life gets turned upside down!

"Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly!"

This quote Val and I saw yesterday on a mug as we were out shopping. It was sooo simple, yet poignant in it's meaning, and it really touched my heart at a time of great personal need. It also really made me stop and think about God in a new way...and about His care for me!

Before the caterpillar could be changed, it had to die to self...or literally go to sleep and give up it's will and it's agenda. No more branches to travel and no more sweet leaves to indulge upon. Of course, if it had not obeyed the call of nature, it would never have been sooo beautifully refashioned and remade.

Now, obviously, no one has ever gotten in the mind of a caterpillar to see what it is thinking...but just imagine how we'd feel if our whole world was literally turned upside down. Just imagine what we'd think if an unseen voice said "Just trust me...something better will come, but for now...I need you to put your wants and cares, your desires and your needs to sleep. You have to be still and let go of your agenda and your plans. You need to die..."

What if there was no voice at all...just a series of events that threw our life into uncontrollable caus?! Suddenly, everything was becoming "mush" and there was nothing we could do but just hold on to the one single little twig of a branch that we had remaining...

The process for the caterpillar is simple. (Well, not really!) But we've learned about it since grade school and it's called "metamorphosis" which simply means: To experience a marked change in appearance, character, condition, or function, also called transformation. (That is scientifically speaking of course.) But we, as Christians, know that this process is nothing short of a miracle that science has yet to explain or completely understand.

Amazingly, this very process also takes place spiritually in our own hearts. If we are truly seeking to serve God and prepare for Heaven, it either: IS happening, HAS happened, or WILL happen...

Hmmm....maybe that's why so many of our hopes and dreams are being turned completely upside down right now?! Maybe that's why so many things seem to be falling apart or going wrong!!

As I think about my heart and life, the mistakes I've made, the agony I've experienced through recent trials, and the complete helplessness I feel for the tasks ahead of me to fully become what I know God has created me to be, I'm encouraged as I see the transformation of the caterpillar. If God could care so much about the details of life that he could change a caterpillar...and not only change the caterpillar, but create it to be something simply beautiful and amazing, how much more can I trust Him to change me?? If he notices when a single sparrow falls to the ground and experiences loss, how much more does He notice when I cry and when I feel loss??

"Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows." Matt 10:29-31

Sometimes this is hard to comprehend and hard to understand...but I lift up my head with joy and hope as I see the great God I love and serve, and am seeking to understand more. Nothing is too hard for God...nothing!!! The most ugly circumstance, the most bitter trial, the most heartbroken tears...nothing can get in the way of the beautiful creation He is making in our heart and lives. Nothing is too great for God...If He can change a caterpillar...He can change me!

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." II Cor 5:17

Some more thoughts of inspiration from the pen of inspiration...

"The Intimacy of God's Care for Us"

"Jesus taught his disciples to pray. He directed them to present their daily needs before God. As we realize our dependence upon God for both temporal and spiritual blessings, we may offer up fervent and effectual prayer. Our great need is in itself an argument that pleads most eloquently in our behalf. Your wants, your joys, your sorrows, your cares, your fears, you may present before God. You cannot weary Him, you cannot burden his heart. Nothing is too great for Him to bear; for He upholds the worlds and rules the universe. Nothing is too small for his notice; for He marks the sparrow's fall, and numbers the hairs of your head. He is not indifferent to the wants of his people.

The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy. He is touched by our sorrows, and even the utterance of them moves his great heart of infinite love. There is no chapter in our experience too dark for Him to read, no perplexity too complicated for Him to unravel. Our Heavenly Father is not un-observing; He sees our tears, He marks our sighs, He notes our joys and sorrows. "He healeth the broken heart, and bindeth up their wounds."

The relation between God and each soul is distinct. His care to you is as minute as though there were no other soul to claim his attention. The psalmist says, "Thou understandest my thought afar off. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. There is not a word in my tongue, but lo, O Lord, Thou knowest it altogether. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me." "Thou tellest my wanderings; put Thou my tears in thy bottle; are they not in thy book?"

In the words of the psalmist is expressed the intimacy and tenderness with which God cares for his creatures. "For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Messenger, January 4, 1893

I praise the Lord today for the HOPE and COURAGE that He has given me in the simple lesson of the caterpillar...Here I've been complaining about losing my legs...and God, He wants sooooo much more for my life! He wants to give me WINGS!!!!!

"Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us..." Eph 3:20

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." I Cor 2:9

Lessons of Hope...revealed in the butterfly!

"For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?" Rom 8:24

"In all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us..." Rom 8:37

He hath made every thing beautiful in his time..." Ecl 3:11
